Quick start
From a new account to a banner that holds trackers until visitors agree — in six steps.
This is the shortest path from sign-up to a working, provable consent setup. Each step links to the page that explains it in full.
1. Create an account
Start free — no card is needed. The free plan covers one website and keeps the banner and blocking for ever.
2. Add your website
A new account opens on Add a website. One site is one domain you want a consent banner on.
- Site name — only you see this; it is how the site is listed in your dashboard.
- Domain — the domain the banner will run on. Subdomains are included.
After you save, you land on the Install page for that site.
3. Paste the script tag
Copy the tag from the Install page and paste it inside <head>, as high up as you can — before anything else that loads. See Install the script for WordPress and Shopify.
4. Load any page of your site
The status card on the Install page changes from Waiting to Connected within a few seconds of the first page view. That is how CookieRay knows the script is live on your domain — there is no DNS record or file to upload.
5. Run your first scan
Open Scans and press Scan now. CookieRay opens your pages in a real browser and records every cookie and third-party script it sees. A scan only runs once the site shows as connected. See Scans.
6. Turn the banner on — and choose Strict
The banner is off by default, so installing the tag never changes your site by surprise. In Settings:
- Turn on Show Cookie Consent Banner.
- Set the consent mode to Strict — block until consent.
The default mode, Log only, records what visitors choose but lets every tracker keep running. It is a safe first install, not compliance on its own. See Blocking scripts.
Your dashboard shows a compliance score built from seven checks — banner on, Strict mode, every cookie categorised, a privacy policy link, a scan in the last 30 days, consent remembered for 13 months or less, and Google Consent Mode v2 on. It tells you the next thing worth fixing.
